The 1nteger TV 2018 Year In Review

Got to start by thanking all of you who have supported the streams/broadcast throughout 2018. You provided motivation, relevancy, laughs, memories and joy. The community is what makes this madness a pleasure in the first place, so again, thank you so much and I wish you your best year ever in 2019!

Now the important stuff is out the way, 2018's been an interesting year, and the first year of this The 1nteger TV streamsperiment. (On-going post, likely will add things as I go/remember)

So, I think we'll use this particular post to show off the (hopefully) interesting data of the year in review, as well as point out some highlights, favourites and milestones. We'll then finish off with some brief thoughts on the year from yours truly'ish. I plan to have separate posts for the plan and goals for 2019 as well as a deeper analyst of how the year went as far as goals, milestones and aims/thoughts and whether it's worth it.

Final Thoughts

So, it's kinda hard to say how I feel about 2018 overall. If you look at it from the perspective of streaming on a non-fixed schedule consistently with an mostly random rotation of games, playing 60% of the time what I wanted to vs what would potentially bring the most traffic or growth (as was the case with Red Dead 1 and Spider-Man selections / focus at the time bringing the most successful month), it's pretty good overall. Especially when you take into account what I feel is no doubt the 'still' ever-growing numbers of people streaming & thus increased saturation.

On the other hand, if you take into account the effort vs reward. The noise and saturation. The desperation vs quality of the masses. The finessing of bigger streamers required and networking in the communities (difficult if you're naturally a lurker like me) and the inflexibility of the streaming life, it doesn't feel good enough to me.

I think I've learned some amazing lessons and gained some great social skills and confidence in doing such natural narcissistic-leaning work (again, it's harder if you care as much or more about games and the art of them versus focusing on showcasing yourself) that I believe I can take to more higher barrier to entry work or goals such as my game dev stuff. Well, possibly anyway.

So yeah, more good work in terms of what I've learned and accomplished considering all things but I definitely will be looking to change things because otherwise it will become as it is for many, a practice in the definition of insanity.

Thanks much if you reached this far and read 70% or more of it! A heartfelt Happy New Year 2019 too, bless up!
